Gastric Bypass

Gastric Sleeve

It is typically recommended for individuals with extreme obesity (BMI of 40 or higher) or obesity (BMI of 35 to 39.9) with serious weight-related health problems. In some cases, individuals with a BMI of 30 to 34 and serious weight-related health issues may also qualify for certain types of weight-loss surgery.During the surgery, most of the left part of the stomach is removed, leaving behind a narrow tube called a sleeve. Food still empties from the bottom of the stomach into the small intestine as it did before surgery. The small intestine is not operated on or changed. After the surgery, individuals may lose anywhere from 50 to 90 pounds.

Gastric band surgery is a procedure where a band is placed around the upper part of your stomach to create a small pouch. This pouch helps you feel full earlier and for a longer period of time, so you eat less and lose weight. The band can be adjusted by injecting liquid into it through a port under your skin. Gastric Balloon

This non-surgical procedure is typically performed in the endoscopy unit as an outpatient procedure, which means you won't need to stay overnight in the hospital. During the procedure, you'll be given sedation to ensure your comfort. The doctor will use a thin tube, called a catheter, loaded with the intragastric balloon. This catheter is carefully advanced down your throat and into your stomach. To provide visualization and guidance, an endoscope, which is a flexible tube with a camera attached, will also be inserted through your throat and into your stomach. The camera allows the doctor to see the balloon clearly as they fill it with saline solution. The entire procedure usually takes around half an hour to complete. Afterward, you can typically go home within one to two hours, as long as there are no complications. To allow your body to adjust, you'll start with small amounts of clear liquids a few hours after the procedure. Gradually, you'll progress to a soft food diet over the course of the first week. By the start of the second week, you should be able to resume eating regular food. The intragastric balloon is designed to remain in place for up to six months. When it's time for removal, a similar endoscopic procedure will be performed. During this procedure, the doctor will use the endoscope to carefully deflate and remove the balloon from your stomach. At that point, you and your doctor can discuss whether to place a new balloon or explore other options based on your specific needs and goals.
